The Safely Working Project
The Safely Working Project could be characterized as a philosophy. However, it is intended to be a framework for building and maintaining a positive workplace culture of “Safely Working 100% of the time.” The Safely Working Project is striving to alter the perception of workplace safety from a static state of achievement to the dynamic effectiveness of The Safely Working Environment.
An important mission of the Project is to develop and provide simple, sensible guidance and knowledge to supervisors and employees. While The Safely Working Project is being designed for small employers without a safety department, we are confident that employers with a safety staff will find The Project very complimentary to their existing program.
The Project is comprised of these 6 significant elements:
Safely Working Environment (Sensible Care)
Safely Working Activities (Tasks and Conditions that may be dangerous)
Safely Working Skills (Safe 6)
Safely Working Communication (Training)
Safely Working Supervision (Safely Supervising)
Safely Working Knowledgebase (Supervisor Resource)
The Safely Working Environment stimulates employees to use sensible care while at work. This Environment works because it embodies an understanding of the activities, awareness, abilities, attitude, assets, and avoidance essential for Safely Working.
Today, we are officially introducing the “Safe 6”, the core concept that propels every element of The Safely Working Project. At its heart, “Safe 6” defines and provides a structure for “Safely Working Skills.” It is this sensible structure that facilitates practical and effective employee training by supervisors. Safe 6 is defined around the following 6 simple steps necessary to safely complete a job or task:
- Recognize All the Dangers
- Prepare the Workspace
- Inspect the Equipment
- Control Conditions and Remove Dangers
- Engage and Execute Skillfully
- Guard Against Mishaps
One of the many benefits of Safe 6 is that it intuitively defines training objectives and highlights the information and practices to be included in a safety meeting or training session. In the coming weeks, The Safely Working Project will be releasing a simple and free training program that can be used by supervisors with their employee team.
The Safely Working Project is focused wholly on employees and their health and well-being in the workplace. Its success will be achieved organically through employee acceptance. With that in mind we are always “Safely Working from the Ground Up.” Actually, we are turning Safety upside down.

The Safely Working Project is focused wholly on employees and their health and well-being in the workplace. The Project promotes useful guidance that does not depend on a safety professional or staff to facilitate in the workplace.
The Safely Working Project envisions a path to workplace safety that is driven by employees and supervisors. This is fundamentally different from the traditional Safety Program where an EHS Professional manages workplace safety. So, instead of top down safety, Safely Working endeavors to succeed from the ground up. “We’re turning safety upside down.”
